Recognise the signs of necessary renovation in good time
Masonry that is damp or contains salt
Historical buildings above all are often seriously affected by moisture that rises over the course of many decades. In the process, it is not unusual for harmful salts to also be transported into the masonry. This could be caused by salt that is spread in the winter or even existing salt in the old foundation walls. You can recognise damp masonry that contains salt by dark stains or bubbles on the surface of the facades and by the efflorescence of salt crystals.
Mould formation in the living area
Moisture and salt are not only a strain on the masonry, but they also constitute the ideal breeding ground for mould. Without appropriate renovation measures, wall mould in the living area can harm your health over time. Therefore, pay particular attention in your living rooms to efflorescence or dark, speckled stains on the walls.
Damage from flooding
It is often the case that harmful chemicals and salts are carried along with a flood. They can be deposited in masonry and seriously affect it. Even leaky pipes can cause damage to the building fabric over time. Therefore, especially for flood damage, we recommend a qualified masonry analysis and sufficiently long drying times before renovations begin.

Taking wall samples
In order to accurately analyse the damaged building fabric, our specialised consultants take plaster and masonry samples onsite. The sampling points are marked on the masonry and their location, height and depths recorded in writing. Each one is packed individually and air-tight. The samples are brought immediately to the laboratory of Profibaustoffe Austria GmbH for further analysis.
Performing lab analyses
Physical and chemical analyses of the investigated material are performed in our lab. First of all, the samples are weighed in accordance with the so-called DARR method, dried and then weighed once again. With this method, the moisture content of the masonry can be determined exactly. Afterwards, the samples are tested for harmful salts and other harmful chemicals such as, for example, sulphate, chloride or nitrate.
Qualified, written renovation recommendation
You will receive your personal PROFI renovation recommendation from us in a written form. It consists of an analysis report on the samples that were taken, a comprehensive description of the optimum renovation plaster system, as well as other recommended actions. That way, you and your workers have all the necessary information available to you for successful renovation. When ordered, all the necessary renovation products will be delivered right to the building site. If need be, a PROFI application technician will supervise the work onsite.
